The results are in for this year’s city of Lake Oswego Arbor Month Contest.

Creating artwork based on this year’s theme of “Trees, Bees…And Other Pollinators,” elementary school students were awarded for their work at the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market Saturday, May 18.

Palisades World Language School second grader Addie Andrew placed first in the kindergarten through second grade division while Lake Grove Elementary School kindergartner Anna Bi finished second and Forest Hills Elementary School kindergartner Diana Tuttle earned third place. Andrew also won first place in the competition two years ago as a kindergartner.

“Addie’s attention to detail is top-notch, with a tree pushing its leaves in the early spring along with a bee hive, a hungry hummingbird, a bat cave and more!” a city press release reads.

In the third through fifth grade vision, Forest Hills Elementary fifth grader Torben Grosse-Wortmann placed first while Westridge Elementary School fifth grader Grace Edelen finished second and homeschooled fifth grader Clara Watson earned third place.

“Torben’s art features a whimsical tree along with bees, a swing, a table made from tree parts, a birdhouse, coffee cup, the City’s logo and more. Not only does it look like it came straight from a story book, but this inviting setting exemplifies urban and community forestry,” a city press release reads.

The winners received their prizes, including a red currant shrub to expand their pollinator habitat and a pollinator guide book, at the farmers’ market May 18. Entries were judged based on “creativity and overall design based on the theme,” according to the press release.

Entries are available for viewing at City Hall, the Lake Oswego Public Library and the city’s website at www.ci.oswego.or.us/planning/arbor-month-art-contest.
