Martha Schrader leads race for position 3 on Clackamas County board

Incumbent and Lake Oswego resident Martha Schrader has the edge over Amy Nichols and Dana Hindman-Allen in the election for Clackamas County Board of Commissioners position 3, according to the latest returns.

Schrader has collected 58% of the vote while Nichols has 23% and Hindman-Allen has 19%. Only the ballots of about 28% of registered voters had been counted as of the late afternoon Thursday, May 23.

Whoever receives over 50% of the vote will be elected. If no candidate receives over 50%, the top two will face off in a general election.

“I’m pleased,” Schrader said after seeing the early returns. “I’m glad to be back one more time, really. I have about three or four projects I want to finish for this county. I had no idea how I would do. I never anticipate that it’s going to be a done deal.”

She added: “Whoever I am elected to serve with, I will do the best I can to help my colleagues to make this county the best it can be and continue to work toward good policy.

Schrader has served on the commission for much of the last 15 years while Hindman-Allen, a Sandy resident, is a real estate agent who has served on the Clackamas County parks board and Nichols, a Tualatin resident, is a small business owner who previously ran for the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board.

This is Oregon’s second election cycle affected by the new postmark rule. Ballots dropped off by 8 p.m. Tuesday or postmarked by then will count. In 2022, county election offices received a large amount of ballots at the last minute, delaying the final results in some races.
