Huyler and Kornachuk named Lakeridge High School Athletes of the Week for May 29

Huyler is a junior on the Lakeridge High School varsity girls’ track team, and Kornachuk is a junior on the boys’ varsity track team.

Setting the pace for the Pacers in track and field this season, junior athletes Chloe Huyler and Shanko Kornachuk have been named Lakeridge High School’s Athletes of the Week for the week of May 29th.

Competing on the girls’ varsity track team in distance races, Huyler had quite the track meet at the OSAA 6A State Track & Field Championships, winning the 3000 meters in a time of 9:33.15 to best the filed by more than five seconds. She also finished third in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:29.14. Huyler’s senior season is sure to be an exciting one with her dominance in track.

Competing for the boys in the jumping events, Kornachuk also had an eventful meet at the OSAA 6A State Track & Field Championships, finishing fourth in the long jump with a personal best leap of 21’-11.5”. He was also a member of the Pacers 4x100 relay team that made it to the state finals and placed tenth. Looking to the future, with Kornachuk also finishing fourth in the triple jump and eighth in the pole vault at the Three Rivers League District Championships, the future is bright for his senior year of track.
