The Lake Oswego School District recently started construction of a new bus barn at 6333 Lakeview Blvd. The facility will replace the current barn on Southwest Beasley Way and will house 66 buses.

The district embarked on this project because it wanted a bigger facility in better condition that could undergo electrification upgrades, among other reasons.

The district received approval for the project following a land use dispute put forward by the Rosewood Neighborhood Association that reached the Land Use Board of Appeals. A previous proposal had been rejected by the city of Lake Oswego in 2019.

The district expects the barn to be completed in August and for it to be operational prior to the start of the 2024-25 school year.

The district bought the property in 2018 for $3.25 million and the budget for the construction of the new barn is $3.6 million. The district took out a loan to finance these improvements and 70% of that cost is eligible to be reimbursed through the state of Oregon’s school transportation grant funding, the district said.
