A disgraced father found guilty of drugging his daughter's friends during a sleepover at his home in Lake Oswego, Oregon, has been jailed.

Michael Meyden, 57, was convicted of giving three 12-year-old girls a sleeping drug, benzodiazepine mixed with mango smoothies in August 2023.

He was sentenced to 24 months in prison on Monday, June 10, despite pleading not guilty in February, he was charged with causing another person to ingest a controlled substance.

While in the court room, two of the girl's mothers pleaded for the maximum sentence of four and a half years, emphasising that the "worst could have happened that night", and said that the "two-year sentence is not enough".

The girls, who were 12 at the time of the incident , told police that Michael made them drink smoothies containing a white powder, which left them feeling "groggy" and caused some to "black out", as stated in the court documents.

They also reveal that Michael made repeated visits to the basement to watch them sleep. At one point, he held his finger under one girl's nose and waved a hand in front of her face to see if she was asleep.

The testimony by one of the girls' in the court documents said that she somehow managed to stay awake and texted her mom just before 2 a.m.

“Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond but please come get me. Please. Please pick up. Please. Please!!", texted one of the girls' to her mother.

Upon receiving no response, she then contacted a family friend who came and picked her up, took her home with her and woke up her parents.

Once the parents found out what happened, they informed the other girls parents, and they reached Michael's place to pick their daughter's up. However, Michael resisted letting them in and taking their daughter's back to their home, insisting that the girls were sleeping.

Eventually, they were allowed in and the girls were taken to their respective homes. All three girls tested positive for benzodiazepine.

During the trial, one of the girl's parents said, "No decent parent puts their hands on drugged and unconscious young girls without nefarious intent. Do not for one second think that I don’t know who and what you are."

While the other parent said, "I have cried, I have raged, all while doing the best I can to wrap my daughter in all the love and support I can possibly give her to help her heal from what you did. Look at me."

"You played Russian roulette with my child’s life," said one of the girl’s mothers.

Three of the girls directed statements at Michael, describing their lives as a living hell and labeling him a monster. They expressed that they are traumatized and have lost trust in adults, and they urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence.

“Nothing you can say can change what you did and what your intentions were,” said one of the girl’s mothers. “There is no forgiveness to be had here. You can take that to your grave.”

The prosecution confirmed that police searched Michael's home for cameras and examined his technology but found no clear motive for the druggings.

Michael said of the actual reason for drugging the girls that his daughter had tried to sneak out once before and he was concerned for their safety. He claimed that he intended for them to feel "drowsy, not comatose."

In a seven-minute apology in the court room, he said, "I deserve that speculation but I have to tell everyone here I was truly worried about them. I just wanted to go to bed and I wanted to go to bed knowing that they were in their bed.”
