Lake Oswego resident opens soap company along A Avenue

Lake Oswego resident Naomi Heedt hopes to help customers of Mad Sass Soap Co. create their own luxurious spa day.

“We want people to take their bath to the next level and have some peace and quiet,” she said.

The soap company that opened its first shop in Multnomah Village in 2020 recently had a grand opening for its new location in downtown Lake Oswego at 160 A Avenue, which used to be Stein Distillery.

“We’re super excited to be here,” Heedt said.

Heedt got the idea for starting the soap company after beginning to create her own soaps as a way to treat her daughter who has eczema, a skin condition that causes inflammation and redness. She said that many soap alternatives were too dry, had chemicals and did not soothe her daughter’s skin.

“All our products are natural. Our soaps are made with oils and butters. They are very moisturizing and really good for the skin,” Heedt said, adding: “After a little while of using it, her skin got better.”

Heedt began selling her soaps at local markets like the Portland Night Market and the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market before opening the brick and mortar in Multnomah Village. The shop also provides soaps for The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg. Heedt is elated to have a shop in the heart of Lake Oswego.

“It’s a great location. It’s perfect. We are members of this community and want to give back. We felt like it was the best place for us to be,” Heedt said.

Along with 11 soap varieties, some of the products the shop sells include room sprays, shower steamers, shampoo and conditioner, candles, body butters, lotions, bath balms that look like donuts and more.

“We are creating a whole atmosphere for people when they shop with us,” Heedt said.
