Lake Oswego High School graduate Nidhi Nair received a $10,000 scholarship from OnPoint Community Credit Union and the Oregon School Activities Association for outstanding scholarship and participation in OSAA-sanctioned activities.

Nair’s involvement in Speech & Debate, the We the People Constitutional Law team and the Harlan Institute Supreme Court competition, as well as community service, earned the recognition of the organizations.

Each year, OnPoint and OSAA recognize six graduating Oregon seniors who’ve earned a varsity letter in an OSAA sport or participated in an OSAA activity.

Nair served as editor-in-chief of the LOHS student newspaper Lake Views and was the Associated Student Body secretary.

“I'm really honored and appreciative of both the OSAA and OnPoint Community Credit Union for granting me the scholarship,” said Nair. “I feel really fulfilled that even though my speech and debate experience has come to an end, I was still able to receive something out of the experience. I'm really grateful that they provided me with the opportunity to help with my college experience.”

Nair was also recognized for her work in the Lake Oswego community. She is the founder of the Random Acts of Kindness Club and volunteers at the local nonprofit Hunger Fighters Oregon.

Nair started the Random Acts of Kindness to spread compassion and kindness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since she founded the club it has established itself at both Lake Oswego School District middle schools.

Next year, Nair is attending George Washington University in Washington, D.C. to pursue a degree in political science.

“I think participating in different activities in school really paved the path that I want to go into and it set in stone my interest in pursuing political science,” said Nair. “I've met so many new people through all of those activities, made a lot of connections, and just grown to be more familiar with the legal area and unlocked new interests for the future of what I want to do in terms of my career.”
