New tea, chocolate shop opens in Lake Oswego

A new tea and chocolate shop has opened at the former Chocolates by Bernards location on 5th Street in Lake Oswego.

Mamancy Tea & Chocolate sells a variety of tea and chocolate products that customers can try at the shop or take to go.

“It’s about experience — the experience of tea. We’re matching the art of tasting, drinking and enjoying the tea culture with something sweet, which is generally enjoyed with a cup of tea,” owner Anne Johnson said.

Johnson grew up in Kenya, where her uncle managed a coffee and tea plantation. Kenya, one of the world’s top tea producers, has a culture of drinking tea daily, Johnson said.

Mamancy sells teas not just from Kenya but around the world, including India, China and Japan. The tea shop offers varieties like black tea, green tea and herbal tea. She hopes people will come to Mamancy to try different tea flavors, enjoy a “high-tea” experience and take home a bag to make on their own.

The Mamancy owner noted the varying health benefits of drinking different types of teas — like antioxidants, alertness and improved digestion.

“The tea keeps you going and enhances your whole body’s ability to have health all around,”she said.

Further, Mamancy makes chocolate like bonbons, bars and truffles out of its Hillsboro location.

“They are seasonal. They have a unique, small-batch flavor. And we can make colorful embellishments on them that give them a cute, unique and flowery touch,” Johnson said.

Johnson opened locations in Beaverton and Hillsboro in 2020, closed the Beaverton location and then opened the Lake Oswego shop this year. She felt Lake Oswego would be receptive to Mamancy’s products. For more information about Mamancy, visit https://www.mamancy.com/.
