OPINION: Republican Party has lost its way

Re: “LO Resident, Former Party Leader, Discusses Experience at Republican National Convention” in the July 24, 2024 edition of the Lake Oswego Review:

I do not know Bob Tiernan personally and have no reason to believe he is anything other than a fine man. But the picture he paints of the Republican National Convention and of the party itself is utterly unsupported by the facts. The GOP, a once-honorable political party, has become a complete cult of personality focused not on issues but on the glorification of Donald Trump, whose “message” is one of bigotry, misogyny and petty grievances. Our country desperately needs a serious conservative movement that can debate important issues in a substantive and adult manner. The Republican Party of 2024 and its leaders offer only fear, hatred and playground insults.
