Lake Oswego council considers developer-financed fund to pay for infrastructure
Struggling to find funding for improvements to the city of Lake Oswego’s infrastructure, the City Council is considering creating a fund paid into by developers that would go toward projects like pathways or stormwater facilities. In a work session Tuesday, March 19, the council deliberated the efficacy of charging an additional fee to developers of single-family homes and duplexes so that it could incrementally improve areas of town lacking pathways or adequate stormwater facilities. The city has identified many millions of dollars worth of such...

So I promise you even though I’m graduated and in college, I’m not as old and uncool as you think I am because I was just like you guys not too long ago,” said Sarnowski. ...
5 renovations that help sell homes
The adage “there’s a lid for every pot” suggests that, even in relation to the real estate market, there’s bound to be a buyer for every home on the market. Price is a significant variable in potential buyers’ minds, but additional factors can affect the impression people get of a given home. Certain home features can tip the scales in favor of sellers. Various renovations can help sell homes more readily. And these renovations need not cost a fortune. Putting a house on the market...

Where Oregon Senate races stand ahead of the primary
Half the seats in the Oregon Senate are up for election this year, and voters will send at least six new senators to Salem because of retirements and a law that barred most Republicans from running for reelection after they participated in a six-week walkout. Control of the 30-member Senate isn’t on the line this election: Senators serve four-year terms with staggered elections, and most competitive races take place in midterm years. Democrats hope to add one or two new senators to their 17-member caucus,...

Retired ODOT deputy director: State might be planning another delay tactic on tolling
In a March 11 letter to the Oregon Transportation Commission, Gov. Tina Kotek stated the “state’s path toward implementing tolling in the Portland area is uncertain, at best. Therefore, I believe it is time to bring the agency’s work on the RMPP to an end and delay additional expenditures for implementation of tolling on I-205 to the future when the legislature can further evaluate and provide clearer direction on tolling.” RMPP refers to a Federal Highway Administration program called the Regional Mobility Pricing Project. ODOT...

A flash of red, the glint of gray. Up in the sky! Look! It’s Superman … It’s a plane … It’s a hummingbird! Everybody loves to spot these wee birds whizzing by faster than a speeding bullet. In Western Oregon and Washington, we have two main species: Anna’s hummingbirds reside here year-round, while Rufous hummingbirds migrate here in early summer. Anna’s shine in green and gray, the males bejeweled with fuchsia crowns. Rufous is another word for reddish-brown, and the birds reflect that: the males...

OPINION: When it comes to behavioral health, no one should have to go it alone
Recently, I was honored to take on a new leadership role in Congress that will help me further my mission of expanding access to mental and behavioral health care. I am now proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Mental Health Caucus along with my colleagues Reps. Grace Napolitano (D-California) and Don Beyer (D-Virginia). For over 20 years, our caucus — which includes both Republicans and Democrats — has been working to raise awareness about mental health and enact sensible, bipartisan policies that will make...
