Jottings From Fifth & G: With love and honor
It was after making my annual May phone call to an Iowa florist when I became both nostalgic and curious. For the florist, it’s a 10-mile trip to the cemetery of a small country church in Iowa that my grandparents, parents and my family attended. For me it always evokes a bout of nostalgia. But this year there was also curiosity as to how May 30, known as Decoration Day in the years of my childhood, became Memorial Day...

As the industry converts to electric power for at least a portion of its products, it's taking some time to figure out how the new cars are going to work. Overall, this is a very good thing. We get to rethink how we want cars to work for us in the future. However, sometimes the experiments just don't work out. Some electric cars are a little bit too unusual, or too expensive to repair. ...
Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer criticized infrastructure law, now lauds it
As a candidate in 2022, Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer said the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law was “not a benefit” and would see “pennies on the dollar” returned to communities.
