Will embattled Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull survive the May primary?
Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull’s days as an elected official might be numbered. Since he posted racist, transphobic, Islamophobic and anti-immigrant views to social media, Shull has been under threat of recall, encouraged to resign by fellow commissioners and striped of his committee assignments. State records, which show Shull has collected no campaign contributions since 2020, confirm that he will be spending little money to combat his opponents’ narrative in...
Oregon's Congressional delegation split on TikTok ban
TikTok, one of the most widely used social networks on the planet, came one step closer to being banned in the U.S. on Wednesday, after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill blocking apps that are run by "foreign adversaries." On Wednesday, March 13, the House passed HR 7521, the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act." The bill was passed with wide bi-partisan support. If signed into...
OPINION: Facts don't match Schrader's claims on grocery merger
I respectfully submit that Kurt Schrader is a shill for big business. If the merger between Fred Meyer and Albertsons is allowed to go through, the new company and Walmart will control 70% of the grocery market in 160 cities in the US. How does this specifically help with local employment and keeping costs down? It is my understanding that monopolies are known for price gouging. Owning 70% of a market is as close to a monopoly as one can get. If you think the greed-flation we have experience over the last 2 years was bad, wait until the combined...

Oregon’s Sen. Jeff Merkley among members of Senate urging president to suspend offensive military aid to Israel
Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, is one of eight senators who sent a letter to President Joe Biden on Monday, March 11, calling for an end to U.S. offensive military assistance to Israel. The seven Democrats and one independent senator say a humanitarian crisis has developed in Gaza, which has been under attack by the Israel Defense Force for months. “Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian access, both at the border and within Gaza, are one of the primary causes of this humanitarian catastrophe,” the letter reads. ...

Ford's Bronco Sport is a great little SUV
Ford made a huge splash with their rebooted Bronco SUV over the past few years. But flying under the radar is another member of the Bronco family that's both more affordable and more comfortable. The compact Bronco Sport shares little but its name and styling with the primary Bronco, and that's why you should take a good look at this compact crossover. The...

Oregon Legislature reaches compromise on public records proposal
The Legislature has passed a compromise bill that satisfies government transparency advocates, stamping out earlier fears that lawmakers would weaken the state’s public records law and approve an exemption barring the disclosure of any taxpayer information. House Bill 4031 would require local government agencies to treat tax information with the same confidentiality restrictions that the Oregon Department of Revenue follows. It’s pared down from an initial version that would have made all taxpayer information that local government agencies possess exempt from disclosure under the state’s...
The 2024 Ford Maverick compact pickup punches above its weight class
The compact Ford Maverick pickup is a genuine hit. Sales in January were up 98% compared to last year. It outsold the perennial leader in the midsize class, the Toyota Tacoma, in 2023. The Maverick also outsold the completely redesigned Toyota Tundra, a full-size truck. The Maverick is based on the compact Ford Escape SUV, which is also the platform for the popular Ford Bronco Sport. The Maverick only has one challenger in the compact truck category, the Hyundai Santa Cruz. But the competition isn’t...
