Warning: Avoid Swimming In This Toxic Minnesota Lake
Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but right now, only 9,999 are fit to swim in after a warning was just posted about staying out of this toxic lake. The hot, humid summer weather that's been prevalent across the North Star State this July might make you want to take a dip on one of our 10,000 lakes to cool off, right? But local officials in this Minnesota city are urging you to avoid any contact with this lake that's now unsafe.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - It will be beautiful and comfortable for the next couple of days with temperatures in the mid-70s on Wednesday. We’re taking a break from the heat and humidity as temperatures dip slightly below average and dew points stay in the 40s and 50s. It’s a...
A Somali-American former investigator: why you’re hearing about fraud in my community
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, where I previously worked as a fraud investigator, announced last year its largest ever Medicaid fraud case, charging 18 people with stealing $9.5 million. Not long after, the AG charged three people with stealing nearly $11 million, again in Medicaid funds. In May, eight were charged with defrauding Medicaid of […] The post A Somali-American former investigator: why you’re hearing about fraud in my community appeared first on Minnesota Reformer.
Wednesday kicks off stretch of lovely summer weather in Twin Cites
MINNEAPOLIS — Wednesday kicks off a stretch of lovely summer weather in the Twin Cities.Wednesday's forecast high is 76 degrees with low humidity. The area of high pressure that's responsible for the beautiful weather will shift eastwards overnight into Thursday. This will really calm down the wind and bring out the best of summer with highs in the upper 70s with low humidity once again. Why stop there? It looks like a beautiful day on Friday, too, with highs pushing the lower 80s. That high pressure shifts eastwards and then we invite a little more moisture in for the weekend.Expect a weekend in the lower 80s with a few Saturday evening showers across Minnesota, and a chance for a few isolated evening storms on Sunday. Highs then increase to the mid-80s on Monday with another risk for thundershowers. It looks like we then return to the lower 80s around midweek next week. No signs of significant heat, yet.
Tribes in Minnesota are paying the steepest price for the steel industry’s mercury pollution
Demand for steel is on the rise globally, driven by population growth and the expanding economies in developing nations. The material will also be important to the green energy transition, forming the backbone of infrastructure like wind turbines, solar panels, and hydroelectric dams. Every part of the steel supply chain is heavily polluting, and the places in the U.S. where the steel industry is concentrated are disproportionately low-income and nonwhite, highlighting yet another instance in which the promises of development and climate solutions come at a steeper cost for some communities. What’s more, the country’s steel production is dominated by just two companies: U.S. Steel and Cleveland Cliffs.

Thousands of Minnesotans still without power after weekend storms
HOPKINS, Minn. – While more than 100,000 Minnesotans lost power during the weekend's storms and severe weather, just under 2,000 were still left without by Tuesday morning. For the unlucky few, it's a point of frustration – all while questioning when the power will come back online. "My hope was that it could be 4-5 hours, that would be the extent of it, hopefully," said Jean Hynek of Hopkins. "If you just got more communication, I think you could handle the situation better."Hynek says she's had to refresh Xcel Energy's outage map continuously over the past several days. She...
