Youngkin issued the order earlier this month to “establish a cell phone free education.” It will be the first statewide initiative to eliminate or severely restrict cell phone use for all the state's public schools.

Man who pushed woman out of moving car near Ballston sentenced
A Maryland man has been sentenced to 45 years behind bars after pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle near Ballston, causing severe injuries. Willie James Clements Jr., 61, was sentenced to 35 years for aggravated malicious wounding, as well as the maximum 10 years for hit-and-run, in Arlington County Circuit Court last week.

Driver cited for April incident that badly hurt pedestrian
Vienna police have cited a driver who allegedly struck and badly injured a pedestrian at Church and East streets, N.E., on April 24. The pedestrian was walking southbound in the crosswalk on Church Street at 6:40 p.m. that day when the motorist, who was driving northbound on East Street, N.E., turned left onto Church Street and the vehicle struck the pedestrian, police said.
