Northwestern prepares Evanston campus for football games
Northwestern begins the 2024 football season against Miami University (Ohio) this Saturday, Aug. 31, with its first home game at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Situated on the north end of the Evanston Campus, the temporary facility is expected to bring new levels of activity and excitement — along with thousands of community members, fans and visitors — before, during and after each of the five home games that will be played at the facility this fall.
Chicago police alert South Side residents to thieves stealing guns from parked vehicles
CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago police are warning South Side residents of thieves stealing guns from parked vehicles. Since July 31, eight overnight vehicle break-ins have been reported. Police say the person breaks the passenger window or enters unlocked cars on the street before taking things inside. In seven of the eight break-ins, the burglar got away with guns. The following are the incident dates and times: 0-100 block of E. Cermak Rd on July 21, 2024 at 11:30 p.m. 2400 block of S. Michigan Ave on July 27, 2024 at 11:45 p.m. 2200 block of S. Wabash Ave on July 28, 2024 at 2:30 a.m. 2200 block of S. Michigan Ave on July 29, 2024 at 2:50 a.m. 2200 block of S. Wabash Ave on August 4, 2024 at 2:30 a.m. 2000 block of S. Wabash Ave on August 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. 2100 block of S. Wabash Ave on August 9, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. 2300 block of S. Wabash Ave on August 15, 2024, between 1:00 a.m. - 1:54 a.m.No description of the thieves was available. Former CTA bus driver gets probation for shooting another car during road rage incident on Kennedy Expressway
CHICAGO — A former CTA bus driver who shot another driver’s car on the Kennedy Expressway has been sentenced to probation, according to court records. Brandi Jolivet, 44, faced two counts of attempted murder in the case, which stemmed from an incident in the outbound lanes in June 2022. But prosecutors dropped those charges in a deal, and Jolivet pleaded guilty to the remaining counts: aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Chicago police officer accused of beating another officer
CHICAGO (CBS) — In a disturbing claim coming out of Chicago's Seventh Police District, one officer is accused of beating another. Sources tell CBS News Chicago the two were involved in a romantic relationship. Sources say a Chicago police officer identified as Francisco Galvan, 30, waited in a parking lot right outside the seventh district for his girlfriend, who is also an officer and was on duty at the time. Pickup truck driver runs red light, slams into car
RACINE, Wis. — The driver of a Dodge Ram truck ran a red light Sunday afternoon in Racine and hit a four-door sedan, according to Racine police. The truck rolled over, and the driver had to be pulled from the vehicle. They were taken to an area hospital with injuries.
