Local young man makes good, and what an interesting life he has embarked upon. One of our own, Devin Cameron, who grew up in the area and graduated from Colfax High School, has become a sought-after lighting designer in New York, California, and venues around the world. Now, he is developing the lighting design for InConcert Sierra’s new Crown Point Venues. He is developing the lighting design for the entire 42,000 square foot building, including the complex systems for the 540-seat concert hall and the 150-seat black box theater.
Ideas & Opinions — Tim Jensen: Our country is in great trouble
I was awed by the flawless summation by Mike Haplerin in his recent discourse and I thought it should be shared lest it did not catch the attention by those in my community who should poignantly peruse it. He wrote: “The public has been lied to by its government and its free press. Foreign nations, friends and foe, know that our president is mentally unfit for office, and that there is no one in charge in the White House. The very foundations of the American system have been replaced by sand and mist, leaving questions about, yes, re-election, but also fundamental doubts about our national security and our commander in chief. The media’s conspiracy of silence was intended to keep Donald Trump from returning to the White House for a second term. It is ironic that the deception and hypocrisy may be what in fact leads Trump straight back to the Oval Office.” My, my. It is worthy to note that Mr. Halperin has worked as a journalist for ABC, MSNBC and, aghast, Fox News (to all of you with TDS). Trump may have some very bad habits, but he and his MAGA supporters aren’t villainous treasonous people who maliciously distort the fabric of our government for their own purposes. Those who have bought the Democrats’ lies thus far would do well to show their disdain for the current regime in the White House and the Democratic Party.
Lindhurst FFA shines at Yuba-Sutter Fair
Lindhurst FFA members recently attended the 2024 Yuba-Sutter Fair where 23 students exhibited livestock projects and sold them during the Junior Livestock Auction. Leading up to the fair, students were responsible for purchasing, raising, record keeping, and marketing their livestock projects. Lindhurst FFA members exhibited eight hogs, two steers, one replacement heifer, five turkeys, and seven lambs. At the fair students also had the opportunity to show their livestock projects in showmanship and markets classes where professional livestock judges evaluated their animal's overall quality and their student’s ability to show the animal. In addition to individual market class winners, some notable wins from the livestock shows include:

Ideas & Opinions — Mary Wernette: America and the world deserve a contested Democratic convention
America and the world deserve a contested Democratic convention. That is what took place in Chicago from May 16-18, 1860. Among the four Republican candidates, emerged one of our county’s favorite Presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Mary Wernette, Nevada City.
Ideas & Opinions — Judith Lowry: CHIRP was not founded to operate as a political cudgel
It has been weeks since the former Mayor of Nevada City violated the Brown Act by interrupting my public comment and accusing me of lying. I have received no explanation or apology. The Nevada City Council is not behaving like a responsible government body when it tolerates such disrespect toward a concerned citizen. The issue I was attempting to bring before the community is complicated, long standing, unresolved and dark. This Mayor has actively suppressed my attempts to bring it to the public’s attention, for months.

Ideas & Opinions — Paul Elias: Nevada City will be exempt from food waste collection mandates
Misleading, especially for Nevada City residents seeing the front-page ad in The Union, 5/29/24, from the County's Solid Waste Department boldly stating, 'Coming to Nevada County Food Waste Collection.' Unfortunately, not so if you consider Nevada City, within Nevada County. Nevada City has decided not to offer food waste (FW),...
