In this photo from the July 5, 1956, edition of the Auburn Journal, a refreshing drink of milk is supplied to these members of the Placer Savings and Auburn 20-30 Boys League teams by Nathan Anderson of Anderson Brothers Dairy. The dairy started the practice of supplying each of the four teams with cold milk after each game of Saturday’s doubleheader in observance of June, which was dairy month. They will continue the practice through the Boys League season. The dairy is situated off the Grass Valley Highway, and a processing plant is located at Elder’s Corner.

Looking Back, Loomis: Town had no water supply, fire department for 1915 blaze
Fire was part of the history of Loomis as the town burned on July 15, 1915. The fire appeared to start at 3 a.m. when an oil stove spilled its fuel and quickly engulfed the May residence and livery stable. Then the flames made short work of the Loomis Hotel, F.W. Turner's properties (post office, Wells Fargo office, and a newsstand), H.M. Plaus Drug Store, Dr. E. Ostrom's office. H.M. Branstetter Grocery, Rochdale's Store, Baradoni's Butcher Shop, Misley's Hall, Bank of Loomis, Andrew Taylor's Millenary Store, Union Ice Company and Charles Coburn's Cobbler Shop. The fire occurred when Loomis had no ready water supply and no fire department. Plus, the buildings were all wooden structures.
3 who died in recent Nevada County drownings are identified
NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — Three people who drowned in Nevada County this week have been identified. According to the Nevada County Coroner's Office, 26-year-old Enrique Nieto-Hernandez drowned in the Yuba River on July 4 and 29-year-old Juan Carlos Rangel-Avila drowned near the Scotts Flat Reservoir dam on July 5.
