The third annual Lake Stevens Classic pickleball tournament is scheduled for July 11-14 at the Cavelero Mid High School courts (8220 24th St. SE). Registration is based on skill level using the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR).

The mandatory evacuation area for the Thompson Fire, near Lake Oroville, was greatly reduced on Thursday. Except for zones within the perimeter of the fire, evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings. About 10 square miles on the lake’s west shore remained under the order, down from almost 50 square miles shortly after the fire started on Tuesday.
8:30 a.m. UPDATE: Thompson Fire 46% contained; five zones still under evacuation order
OROVILLE — Firefighters are getting a handle on the Thompson Fire that has burned 3,789 acres north of Oroville. As of Friday morning, the blaze has reached 46% containment any many who were evacuated have been able to return home as orders have reverted back to warnings. However, there are still five zones under an evacuation order.

Oroville temporarily bans the use of all fireworks
OROVILLE, Calif. - The city of Oroville has temporarily banned the use of all fireworks within city limits, including the Safe and Sane variety, due to the Thompson Fire. The city of Oroville said firework vendors are encouraged to cease the sale of Safe and Sane fireworks immediately. Vendors who continue to sell Safe and Sane fireworks must post the Emergency Regulation prominently at the point of sale and must provide a copy of the Emergency Regulation to all customers purchasing fireworks.

Thousands were ordered to evacuate in northern California ahead of a fire burning in Butte County, as an “exceptionally dangerous and lethal” heat wave in the West is building. Cal Fire reported that three firefighters suffered injuries on the fire and thousands of people were still evacuated early today near Oroville. Several others were injured today.
