Sally Tackney Brackett
Sally was a 4th generation Californian born in Sacramento, CA. The only child of Bernice and Ivan Tackney she graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento and was a University of California Berkeley Alumni where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority (Go BEARS!). While attending Berkeley she “re met” fellow McClatchy grad and MBA student Ray Brackett. They were married on December 20th, 1952. After multiple moves around the country due to Rays career with Chevron Corporation, Ray and Sally settled in Walnut Creek, CA in 1973 with their daughter and two sons. They found great times with life long friends called “the bridge club” which was really all about a dear group of friends who enjoyed cocktails, food, travel and a little bridge. While living in Walnut Creek Sally and Ray were very proud to see all three of their children follow in their footsteps and graduate from the University of California Berkeley (Go BEARS).Sally was always busy being a great Mom, a valued employee and a super volunteer. After raising her children, Sally worked for Grubb and Ellis in Danville and volunteered at the Diablo Thrift Shop. Ray and Sally retired to Nevada City CA in 1986. Sally was the past president of the New Comers Club of Nevada County, a member of P.E.O.Chapter VJ, and a member of the Red Hat Club. As an avid reader she enjoyed her time with the Cover Girls Book Club. After Rays passing in 1997 Sally dove into her role as managing the distribution of the Nevada Country Food Bank, enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and a good mystery. She returned to her favorite game of bridge where she was the past president of UNIT 461 Contract Bridge League. It was at a duplicate bridge conference in Idaho that Sally met the second love of her life Jens Noet. Sally taught us all to keep our hearts open to what life could bring you.Sally and Jens had over 20 years together where Jens taught Sally the love of stamp collecting and she became the secretary of the Gold Country Stamp Club. Jens joined Sally at the Food Bank and they enjoyed friends at the Sons of Norway. Jens and Sally visited all their grand and great grand children and hosted many fun times in their home in Nevada City.Sally was smart, funny, a fabulous story teller and a woman who could give great advice. She had friendships with all ages because she just loved connecting with others. After Jen’s passing she was surrounded by the most wonderful friends and neighbors on Northview Drive. Our family will always be thankful for how her neighbors and friends watched out for her.Sally was an independent thinker with a very strong conviction about loving your family, caring for our country and always respecting the American flag. She would fly her flag proudly every day from her tall front yard flag pole. The flag was a symbol of the greatness of the United States and for her it meant soldiers coming home especially her father, husband and her son. She was known to burst in many patriotic songs- which she made sure all her children could singalong with her. Our family flags are at half mast.Sally is survived by son John Tackney Brackett and husband Robert, daughter Susan Brackett Boyle and husband Bill, son Steven Brandon Brackett and wife Kristy. Sally is also survived by four grand children plus 1 grand daughter in law, and 2 great grand daughters. The family would like to sincerely thank Sally’s care providers in Nevada City and the Carlton of Pleasant Hill staff who made Sally’s last six months wonderful. We would also like to thank Hospice of Bay Area for their support during the last weeks of her life.”You’re a grand old Flag you’re a high flying flag and forever in peace may you wave”

New Kids On The Block brings the 80s back to Wheatland, CA
Tuesday, July 2nd was a very, VERY HOT day in Wheatland, CA at the Toyota Amphitheatre. With the temperature soaring around 110 degrees, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Paula Abdul, and New Kids On The Block pressed onward with the Magic Summer Tour, ready to transport the packed house back to the days of their youth. Only this time, most of us brought our kids, as well! It was really fun to see so many moms sharing this event with their children. To be honest, the weather was miserable and there was a fire nearby, so smoke was filling the air. But, NKOTB fans didn’t let that stop them from having the time of their lives.
