Ann Williams Gailbreath passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on July 9, 2024. She was born in Sacramento, CA in 1927 and lived in Auburn for all her life, apart from a brief time when she and her husband Richard (Dick) lived in Shaker Heights, OH. She attended Auburn Schools through graduation from Placer High School in 1945. She attended Lux College in San Francisco, CA and Placer Junior College.
Park District, local leaders debut renovated Iowa Building
The Iowa Building, Jackson Park’s 91-year-old pavilion with ties to the World’s Fair, is open again to the public after a year of repair work. Headed by the Chicago Park District, the $2.4 million restoration project sought to transform the historic building into a picnic shelter for community use.

JoAnn (Meyer) Rutter lived an incredible life, pursuing her zest for life and blazing trails every step of the way. A self-proclaimed foodie, lover of travel and the arts, she passed away peacefully on 5/24/2024 at home at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she will be terribly missed, leaving a void that cannot be filled. However, her legacy will live on in all who loved her.

I want to publicly acknowledge my appreciation for the recipes that were provided by Gary Gilligan. I saw his goodbye message in the Auburn Journal on May 8, 2024, (“Saying so long to the column with 3 all-time favorite recipes,” page A2) and was sorry to see his recipes go. I always looked forward to them in the Journal and made many of them. I saved many of them in my archive of recipes (with his name accredited of course!).

Recreation Facilities Closed Following Thompson Fire. Several trails and recreation facilities remain closed within Lake Oroville’s State Recreation Area following the recent Thompson Fire. The Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) continue to assess fire impacts to recreation facilities and long-term closures of some facilities are anticipated for repairs and hazard tree removal.
Drakes baseball in position to earn postseason bid entering second half: Marysville Indy BB sending six players, manager to all-star game on Sunday
Saturday marks the end of the first half of the Pecos League Independent League baseball season. Sunday is the all-star game in both the Mountain and Pacific Divisions. The Marysville Drakes, a member of the Pacific Division, will send six of its players and Field Manager Bill Rogan to Martinez for the Sunday matinee set for 2 p.m. Rogan will be joined by Oroville native Earl Johnson, Garrett Mos, Joe Starick, formerly of the Lincoln Potters, Jumpei Ohashi, Bryan Krolikowski and Mike Vochelli. All will be a part of the East roster alongside players and coaches from Marysville, Martinez and Bakersfield. The West roster, managed by San Rafael’s Austin Fitzpatrick, makes up players from Dublin, Vallejo and Pacific-leading San Rafael.
