Major Injuries Occur in Golden State Highway Accident in Durham
Highway Accident in Durham Occurs at Neal Road Intersection. A Durham intersection accident between three vehicles occurred on Golden State Highway on July 3 to stop to avoid a collision. The accident happened northwest of Oroville along northbound S.R. 99 at Neal Road around 4:17 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Butte County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrived at the scene to find a Chevy Camaro, Honda and Chevy Colorado pickup were involved in the crash.
Evacuees return home after Thompson Fire suspense
OROVILLE — As all too many Butte County residents know, fire is a chaotic and difficult-to-quell beast. The numbers Friday afternoon from Cal Fire-Butte County estimated that 25 structures — be it residential, commercial or other — have been confirmed destroyed by the Thompson Fire bordering the north and northeast end of Oroville with at least six structures damaged.

Fires in north state mostly contained
OROVILLE — The Thompson Fire was nearly three-quarters contained Saturday, and firefighters had success battling nearby fires, too. The Oroville-area fire, which started July 2 at Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Road, was at 3,789 acres and 71% containment, according to a Cal Fire Butte County update. Public Information Officer Rick said that the fire is not expected to grow any larger; at 4 p.m., it remained 71% contained, the same as in the morning.
Water reduction mandate to be considered by Grass Valley City Council
The emergency water shortage continues in Nevada County, and extreme hot temperatures are straining conservation efforts and quickly depleting the limited local water resources. The city council of Grass Valley will consider a mandated 20% conservation from all city customers who use treated drinking water and raw water for irrigation.
Third drowning in Nevada County since Fourth of July claims swimmer at Scotts Flat Lake
A third person has drowned in Nevada County waterways in less than two days after a person died Friday at Scotts Flat Lake, according to firefighters. The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District said crews were called about 4:30 p.m. to the reservoir, five miles northeast of Nevada City, for reports of a swimmer who did not resurface.
