Polk County men accused of stealing new air conditioning units from homes under construction
Two Polk County men are in jail, accused of stealing several new air conditioning units from homes that were under construction, Sheriff Grady Judd said Thursday. Video released by the sheriff’s office shows a pickup truck leaving a community in the Haines City area loaded up with stolen AC units.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Thursday morning near Auburndale, lauding state transportation projects. The governor announced that the Florida Department of Transportation was launching a website that would serve as a portal to “make clear where Florida stands” as opposed to transportation initiatives pursued by the Biden administration. PORTION OF CLEVELAND HEIGHTS BOULEVARD IMPACTED BY PAVING PROJECT
WHY: Roadway resurfacing part of preventative maintenance schedule. WHERE: Cleveland Heights Boulevard between Westover Street and Lake Miriam Drive. LAKELAND, FL (June 27, 2024) – The City of Lakeland will continue the phased Cleveland Heights Boulevard paving project starting Monday, July 22, 2024. The preventative maintenance project will include milling Cleveland Heights Boulevard between Westover Street and Lake Miriam Drive. Milling removes the asphalt surface to the base. It is estimated that this work will take at least four days to complete. Milling before paving is common practice and prevents driveway and ADA ramp adjustments due to increasing pavement heights. Once the roadway is milled, paving is scheduled to start Monday, July 29, 2024, and is expected to take four days to complete.

Polk County man arrested for video voyeurism of 15-year-old girl
Polk County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested a Winter Haven man after he allegedly secretly filmed a 15-year-old girl while she was using his bathroom. PCSO said Domingo Rivera Velez, 43, was arrested on Wednesday, June 26, after he allegedly photographed a girl while she used the bathroom. The photos were discovered by another household member when they noticed pictures of an unknown woman on his phone.
Lakeland Linder projects minimal noise increase with the proposed facilities’ expansion
Lakeland Linder International Airport officials are seeking the public’s input on a proposed expansion project. Two new facilities, including one for maintenance, would sit on the northeast section of the airport. Airport officials are proposing the development of a four-bay maintenance repair and overhaul facility for their commercial aircraft.
