On September 13, 2024, from 8am to 1pm, the Washtenaw County Conservation District (WCCD) will host a field day that will be focused on reducing nutrient loss from field tiles and the use of cover crops to improve soil health, suppress weeds, and assist with nutrient cycling, and will also feature a drone demonstration. The field day will be at H & H Harvest in Bridgewater Township (9880 Austin Rd, Saline), which is operated by Brandon Henes.

Man pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder after appellate court declines to hear case
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A man who previously contested evidence he fatally shot an Ypsilanti man has now pleaded guilty. Roughly three months after the Michigan Court of Appeals declined to consider whether Roger Lee Pierce’s statements to police were inadmissible in court, the 54-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony, court records show.
Richmond Lions help clean aircraft displays at Selfridge museum
Nine volunteers from the Richmond Lions Club finished up their cleaning of a Korean War-era North American F-86A aircraft earlier this month at the Selfridge Military Air Museum at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Detroit police seek missing 14-year-old girl
DETROIT – Police are looking for a 14-year-old girl who has gone missing from Detroit’s west side. According to authorities, LaNiyah Davis Morris was last seen Sunday, July 21, at a home on Huntington Road, just north of Clarita Avenue. Police said she left the home at some point after 2 p.m. and has failed to return.
OK2SAY school safety tips jump 31% in 2023
LANSING — Michigan’s nationally recognized student safety program, OK2SAY, has surpassed its highest ever incident reporting period since launching nearly 10 years ago, according its 2023 Annual Report. OK2SAY empowers anyone to confidentially report criminal activities or threatening behaviors directed at Michigan students, schools and school employees. The 2023 annual report shows a 31% increase in reports made compared to 2022. “As we see increasing reports of suicide, bullying, drugs, assault, and self-harm, we must keep investing in mental support for our kids,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “Michigan’s OK2SAY programs focuses on violence intervention and prevention to keep kids safe at home, at school, and in the community. We know that lives have been saved, school violence has been prevented, and many Michigan students have received the support they need because of the OK2SAY program and the record, bipartisan investments we have made in campus safety and mental health. Together, let’s keep prioritizing our kids and ensure they have the support they need to thrive.” The 2023 OK2SAY Annual Report shows the program received 9,686 tips spanning 30 categories, with the top five being:
