Researchers work to change perception of weeds in Georgia
With ecology as common ground, Mario Bretfeld, Michael Blackwell, and Eric Duncan have taken on a bit of a marketing project. They want people to love weeds. Using scientific acumen, the trio want people to reconsider certain plants as beneficial to the environment, thanks to a project housed at Kennesaw State University's Field Station.

MARIETTA — This week, the Cobb Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning request 4-0, with Chairwoman Lisa Cupid absent, for an Acworth residential senior-living community. Task force seeks to engage the Oconee public
An Oconee task force dedicated to combatting the opioid epidemic locally invites the general public this week for a discussion of how better to do its work. The task force has money to spend and Jon Holland, one of its members, says this week’s public forum is to discuss community needs as part of what’s called a gap analysis. The meeting will be 10 o’clock Friday morning in Oconee County Council chambers in Walhalla.
SLED CHARGES OCONEE COUNTY INMATE WITH VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested 26-year-old Jordan Scott Tilson of Walhalla for voluntary manslaughter in the March 29 jailhouse death of Michael McMahan. The arrest warrant affidavit states that Tilson, in a sudden heat of passion and without malice, struck McMahan on the right side of his head, causing him to fall and hit his head on a steel handrail. Tilson remains in the Oconee County Detention Center.
