Off-price retailer Marshalls is opening new locations in multiple states across the country, with one planned for Lakeport later this summer. A web page dedicated to new store openings lists the Lake County city among others in Michigan, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Texas.

A spokesperson with Marshalls confirmed the location will open Aug. 22 at 2017 S. Main St. but did not provide further details.

Marshalls is known for buying clothing, housewares and other merchandise from suppliers and selling these items at a steep discount. The brand has five locations in the North Bay.

CareerPoint Lake, a hiring firm in Clearlake, has partnered with Marshalls to host a hiring event for 60 open positions in merchandising, customer service, warehouse and other associate roles at the location.

According to a LinkedIn post from deputy director Victoria Pulido, the career firm will be holding in-person interviews until July 25 at its Career Resource Room at 55 First St. in Lakeport.

Massachusetts based-TJX, which owns Marshalls and other retailers including TJ MAXX and HomeGoods, saw a 6% net sales increase totaling $12.5 billion during the first quarter of the fiscal year, according to its quarterly earnings report.

The company has over 4,900 stores across nine countries with approximately 1,200 Marshalls stores in the U.S.

“The second quarter is off to a good start and we see numerous opportunities for our business for the balance of the year that we plan to pursue,” CEO and president Ernie Herrman said in the release. “Longer term, we are excited about the potential we see to drive customer transactions and sales, capture additional market share, and increase the profitability of TJX.”

The Lakeport location is the second retailer to move into the former Kmart space that closed in 2019.

The Lakeport Planning Commission approved a plan in 2022 to renovate the 90,852-square-foot building into three spaces, so far housing Marshalls and Tractor Supply Co., which opened earlier this year, according to reporting from Lake County News.

A third retailer has not been chosen for the remaining space.
