    Lakeville wrestlers reach individual milestones

    Section team tournament comes up next week

    Lakeville wrestlers have hit some important career milestones this season, including three who won their 100th career varsity matches.

    Wrestlers reaching career victory No. 100 are sophomore Riley Clark and senior Bo Bischof, both of Lakeville South, and Lakeville North senior Antonio Menard.

    Lakeville South senior Leo English is fast approaching 75 wins, currently sitting at 70. For North, sophomore Riley Forar along with teammates Michael Anderson (senior) and Blake Krause (junior) have reached 75. Tyler Ruff, a freshman, already has reached 50 wins on varsity.

    Weekend action

    Lakeville South participated in a team tournament in Pine Island on Feb. 3, placing fourth of 13 teams. Contributing to the team points were Bischof (first at 133 pounds), Bo Bokman (first at 172), Clark (second at 145), Josh Bergan (third at 215), Tre Owens (fourth at 189), Mitchell Kelvie (fourth at 285) and English (fifth at 127).

    Lakeville South’s Wyatt Bonnerup took first place at 189 in the ninth-grade state championships last weekend at Champlin Park High School.

    Lakeville South wrestled a couple of potential section tournament opponents in a triangular Feb. 1 at Farmington High School. New Prague, ranked sixth in Class 3A, defeated the Cougars 47-18 in their opening match.

    Farmington earned a narrow victory over South in the final match of the evening, prevailing 34-27 in a dual meet that was not decided until the Tigers earned a decision at 285 pounds.

    The Tigers won seven matches and Lakeville South six in their SSC dual. Justin Dukes (107), English (127), Bischof (133), Clark (145), Bokman (172) and Bergan (215) won their matches for Lakeville South.

    Farmington held off New Prague 31-30 to go unbeaten for the night.

    South, Farmington and New Prague all will wrestle in the Class 3A, Section 2 team tournament next week at Farmington High School. The eighth and ninth seeds in the section will wrestle at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. The semifinals and championship match also will be held Feb. 16.

    Lakeville North, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eastview, Rosemount and Prior Lake also are in the Section 2 tournament. New Prague (sixth) and Apple Valley (11th) are the Section 2 teams ranked in the Class 3A top 12 by TheGuillotine.com.
