Bokman, Menard place in top six in Class 3A

Two Lakeville wrestlers medaled in the state Class 3A individual tournament last week at Xcel Energy Center.

Bo Bokman, a junior from Lakeville South, placed fourth in the Class 3A 172-pound bracket. Lakeville North senior Antonio Menard finished sixth at 215. They were among five wrestlers from Lakeville (three North, two South) to compete in the state tournament at Xcel Energy Center.

Bokman, who qualified for state in 2023 and 2024 while at Faribault High School, earned his first state wrestling medal. He entered this year’s state tournament undefeated and went 3-2 there to finish 21-2.

In his first two matches, Bokman pinned Rochester Mayo senior Lucas Peterson in 54 seconds and won a 7-1 decision against Mounds View junior Ethan Swenson. Eventual champion Jed Wester of St. Michael-Albertville defeated Bokman 12-4 in the semifinals.

A 7-3 victory over Daunte Sasse-Doering of Elk River in wrestlebacks sent Bokman to the third-place match, where he lost to Brady Westall of New Prague 7-6. One week earlier, Bokman defeated Westall 3-1 in the championship match of the Class 3A, Section 2 tournament.

Menard earned a state medal for the second time in three trips to the tournament. He started by pinning Evan Schroeder of Albert Lea in 58 seconds in the first round. He defeated Noah Torgerson of St. Michael-Albertville 9-4 to advance to the semifinals, where Menard lost 6-0 to Quinn Morgan of Mounds View. Morgan went on to win the state championship and finish 50-0.

Menard (30-7) was tied with Derrick Steinke of Hastings 2-2 in the second period of a wrestleback match when he was injured and had to default. He also defaulted the fifth-place match against Torgerson.

As a sophomore, Menard qualified for state at 195. Last year he finished fourth in Class 3A at 220. Menard is going to the Air Force Academy and will play football.

Lakeville North sophomore Riley Forar drew undefeated Landon Robideau of St. Michael-Albertville in the first round at 152 and lost by fall in 3 minutes, 19 seconds. Robideau went on to win the weight class.

Forar defeated Isaac Yetzer of Faribault 5-1 in the wrestlebacks before losing to John Graham 4-2 in overtime to finish 36-12.

Lakeville North freshman Tyler Ruff wrestled one match at 160 – a 7-1 loss to Colton Loween of Mounds View – and finished his season 36-14.

Lakeville South sophomore Mitchell Kelvie reached the Class 3A tournament at 285 but had to forfeit in his first-round match against Will Sather of Eden Prairie. Kelvie finished 22-19 while Sather went on to win his second consecutive state championship.
