Northfield man identified as Lakeville drowning victim

A 26-year-old Northfield man was identified as the person who died in a drowning Saturday about 40 yards from the Antlers Park shoreline of Lake Marion in Lakeville.

Reynaldo Antonio Patishtan Hernandez died after the flotation device he was using was capsized by a wave from a passing motorized boat, according to a release from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses reported that Patishtan Hernandez and a 19-year-old man were on inflatable devices outside the designated swimming area for the Antlers Park beach and both fell into the water, which was estimated at 8 feet deep, after a boat passed at about 5:30 p.m.

Neither of the men could swim, and a bystander entered the water and rescued the 19-year-old, according to the sheriff’s report.

Patishtan Hernandez went under the water before he could be rescued.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Department dive team recovered the body at approximately 8 p.m., according to Sheriff Joe Leko.

“Our deep condolences to his family and friends,” Leko said in a Facebook post.

“We thank and commend the bystander for his heroic, lifesaving efforts of the 19-year-old and extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Patishtan Hernandez,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.

There were many events related to the summer festival Pan-O-Prog were happening in Lakeville on Saturday night, but none of the planned activities were at Antlers Park, which has a swimming beach.
