Public input sought for Primley Park improvements
The City of Lakewood is making improvements to Primley Park and wants to hear from park visitors and neighbors what they want to see. Members of the Lakewood Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will be at the park Wednesday July 31 from 5:30–7 p.m. to share information about the status of improvements at Primley Park.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Leads the Transition to PFAS-free Firefighting Foam at Airports Nationwide
Work is underway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to be the first airport in the nation to use a special cleaning technology that more fully removes foam containing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” from airport fire trucks and replace it with new fluorine-free foam. All five of SEA’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles will be ready with the new product. Prior to approvals granted in 2023, the nation’s airports were required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to continue using PFAS foams for aircraft firefighting.

When Marilyn Mahnke moved to Gig Harbor 20 years ago, she discovered a group of people dedicated to keeping their Norwegian heritage alive through painting. Mahnke’s maternal grandmother was part of an influx of immigrants who came to the United States in the 1800s. They brought with them traditions, household items and craft forms. But it wasn’t until Mahnke moved to Gig Harbor that she became interested in rosemaling, a Norwegian folk art style of painting.
