LAKEWOOD — The Oct. 7 attack into Israel by Hamas insurgents was so very unnecessary, unprovoked and barbaric. For Christians, Jews and Muslims across the globe, it gave rise to troublesome tensions, conflicting emotions and confusion.

Months later, the reverberations are ongoing and difficult to sort out. The war exposes the collision of religious, economic, political, and historical perspectives that many of us don’t understand.

I would suggest that our lack of focused perception is the result of an elementary understanding of Middle East geography, fundamental Biblical facts and truths, and a mediocre grasp of the current political dynamics in that area of the world.

On April 21, 2024, Northwoods Bible Fellowship in Lakewood, under the direction of Pastor Scott VanLaanen, will begin a six-week series that will inform and educate attendees regarding the biblical Abrahamic Covenant and build a connection of understanding current events relative to the modern State of Israel. That Abrahamic Covenant is found in Genesis:

Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” [Genesis 12:1–3]

The Sunday sessions will be held at Northwoods Bible Fellowship (15253 Long Street, Lakewood, WI 54138) from 9:00 — 9:45 a.m. (just prior to the 10:00 a.m. worship service).

    Weekly topics include:

    • April 21 — Who is Abraham?

    • April 28 — Who are the Arabs?

    • May 5 — Who are the Palestinians?

    • May 12 — What is Islam?

    • May 19 — What happened on Oct. 7 and where do we go from here?

    • May 26 — Panel Discussion: Q & A.

All are encouraged to attend. Five different instructors will facilitate/teach the first five sessions; all facilitators will participate in the panel discussion.
