Paris Olympics Apologize for Controversial Opening Scene

The organizers of the Paris Olympics have been forced to say sorry after what some detractors noted was a mimic of ‘The Last Supper’ during the glamour of the opening event on Friday.

The scene included drag artists and dancers and was heavily condemned by the Catholic church and other Christian organizations.

The French Catholic Church claimed that the festivities “contained elements of mockery and derision of Christianity. ”

Paris 2024’s official Anne Descamps said in a Sunday news conference: “There was clearly never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group.”

“Quite the opposite, I think we have attempted to embrace community, tolerance We do think this was this aim was accomplished If people have been offended then we are of course, truly sorry.”

However, the opening ceremony was also appreciated by many people, although some of them highlighted that the scene was more similar to some other works, such as “The Feast of the Gods” by Johann Rottenhammer, Jan Brueghel.

In an interview with CNN affiliate BFMTV on Sunday, Thomas Jolly, who was the director of the opening ceremony stated that ‘The Last Supper’ painted by Leonardo da Vinci was not the inspiration for the scene.
