Iowa Named One Of The Best States For Health Care
Living somewhere that has really good health care is really important. Almost as important as living in a very safe town. Luckily, Iowans can rest easy at night knowing that their state is in the top 5 best states for health care. I mean, think about it. We have great medical facilities and hospitals across the state. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Stead Family Children's Hospital are world renowned.
West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.

Union Pacific Works To Clear Derailment Near Glidden; Nearby Residents Describe The Experience
Union Pacific crews are already actively working to clear the site of a train derailment that occurred yesterday (Monday) evening in Carroll County. According to a Union Pacific spokesman, an estimated 36 cars derailed about a mile east of Glidden shortly after 5 p.m. No injuries were immediately reported, and an investigation into the incident is underway. Two rural Glidden residents, Ralph and Connie Bock, were home when the derailment began. The Bocks have lived about a quarter-mile from the tracks for more than 40 years, so they are used to hearing all different kinds of train noise. However, Connie says this one was something else entirely.
Individual Summer Sports Statistics Part 6: Jackson Pfrang and Reagan Carney
With the summer sports season over, we take a look at individual statistics for AC/GC baseball and softball players. For the baseball team, junior Jackson Pfrang started in all 25 of the team’s games, recording 66 at bats, nine runs and 13 hits, of which 11 were singles and two were doubles. He also had 11 RBI’s, 15 total bases, a batting average of .197, on base percentage of .293 and slugging percentage of .227. He also successfully attempted to steal bases three times.
Woman Charged After Threatening to “Shoot Up” Storm Lake Restaurant
A Cherokee woman was arrested late last week for allegedly making threats in a Storm Lake restaurant. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers were called to the King’s Pointe Regatta Grill at approximately 9:30 Friday evening. Regatta staff informed police that a customer, identified as 21-year-old Neva Villarreal of Cherokee, had threatened to “shoot up” the restaurant after she became upset over an order.
