Early Bloom-Carroll miscue jumpstarts Lancaster baseball in win over Bulldogs: H.S. Roundup

BASEBALL

Lancaster 6, Bloom-Carroll 2: The Golden Gales (18-7) took advantage of a dropped fly ball with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and turned it into three runs to help jumpstart their nonconference win over the visiting Bulldogs at England Field.

With two outs in the first inning, Jacob Errors reached on a fielder’s choice and went to second on a wild pitch. The next batter, Dylan Bird lifted a routine fly ball, which was dropped, allowing Akers to score. Jackson Burke followed with an RBI single, and Owen Pompey doubled home the third run of the inning.

It stayed that way until the fourth inning when the Gales pushed their lead to 4-0 when Carson Miller singled home Burke, who walked earlier in the inning. The Bulldogs cut the deficit 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a groundout. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with no outs, but Lancaster turned a double play to limit the damage.

The Gales added in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dylan Bird knocked in a run on a bunt single to push Lancaster’s lead to 5-1. The Gales added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Hayden Allen led off with a double and scored on Kam Griffith’s single. Bloom-Carroll loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and pushed across a run when Markus Roberson walked.

Sophomore Coleson Ross started and picked up the win in four-plus innings, and Griffith pitched in relief to pick up the save. Roberson started and pitched the first two innings for the Bulldogs, who used three more pitchers after Roberson exited.

Both teams finished with seven hits. Pompey and Hutton doubles, while Burke, Griffith, Bird, Akers and Miller finished with one hit each.

Tryce Chaffin led the Bulldogs by going 3-for-4. Park Truex, Ethan Moore, Caleb Hinkle and Roberson, all finished with one hit.

SOFTBALL

Fisher Catholic 11, Millersport 2: The Irish cruised in the sectional final win over Mid-State League-Cardinal Division foe.

Elle Mitchell led the way for the Irish (20-3) with three hits and two stolen bases. Harper Kline, Jayda Dixon, Ava Brue and Aubri Beausea all finished with multiple hits. Lauren Kersell picked up the win in the circle, giving up six hits and striking out seven.

Alexis Barch and Emma Raver led Millersport as each drove in a run. Kendyl Bonkowski suffered the loss in the circle.

Bloom-Carroll 9, Lancaster 8: The Bulldogs overcame an 8-4 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against the visiting Lady Gales.

Junior Allie Martin knocked in the winning run to walk it off. No other information was available.

TRACK

Fisher Catholic wins MSL title: The Irish boys and girls won the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division championship, held at Millersport High School.

The Irish boys finished with 162 points and Fairfield Christian Academy was second (113). First-place finishers for the Irish boys were Nolan Garrabrant- high jump- 5'10", Jack Gentile 1,600 - 4:43.4, the 1,600 relay team of Gentile, Daschel Neighbor, Landen Funk, Nathan Krile- 3:37.67, Nathan Krile-400-52.77 Pr, Daschel Neighbor- 300 hurdles-43.4, 800- Landen Funk- 2:02.6, Roman Funk- 3,200- 10:06.5-Pr.

Second-place finishers were Jack Gentile- 800- 2:03.4, 400-53.15, Nathan Krile- pole vault- 12 Feet, Daschel Neighbor - 110 high hurdles- 16.86Pr, the 800 relay team of Jacob Welsh, Nolan Garrabrant, Thomas Ristau, Leo Hampshire-1:41..4, and the 3,200 relay team of Reece Hagy, Jake Taylor, Roman Funk, Landen Funk-8:57.4. Senior Jack Gentile was the Most Valuable Performer in the running events.

The Irish Girls placed first scoring 200.5 points while Fairfield Christian scored 127 points and placed second. First-place finishers for the Irish girls were senior Ruby Hagy-1,600- 5:48.7, 400-1:02.4, 800-2:30.18, and the 1,600 relay team of Hagy, Sydney Ellis, Charli Gillum and Abby Krooner. Krooner won the 100 hurdles 17.05, 300 hurdles 50.30, 200-28.5 Pr, freshman Erica Sharp- High Jump- 4'8"Pr, Kierra Sexton- Discus-91'4", and the 800 relay team of Sydney Ellis, Abigail Crabtree, Eve Ohwoforwaraye, and Charli Gillum-2:02.

Second-place finishers were Kierra Sexton-pole vault-8-feet, Maggie Murphy-3,200- 13:30.2 Pr and the 3,200 relay team of Maggie Murphy, Eve Owoforwaraye, Allie Krile, and Mary Grace Crabtree - 11:35.7. Kierra Sexton was the Most Valuable Field Event Performer, and the senior duo of Krooner and Hagy were the Co- Most Valuable Track Performers.
