Since we are in the midst of high school baseball tournament action, this week's photo comes from a game in May 1985.

Unfortunately, Berne Union came out on the losing end of a 10-4 game against host Newark Catholic in the Class A tournament.

While the Rockets outhit the Green Wave, it was Newark Catholic's three home runs during a five-run third inning that made the difference.

While the Eagle-Gazette had only a small write-up on the loss, the Newark Advocate, a sister paper to the Eagle-Gazette, had a fuller story due to its coverage of Newark Catholic.

Here is part of what ran in the Advocate on May 9, 1985:

Through the first three innings, Todd Weber allowed only one Berne Union hit. However, the Rockets score their first run of the game in the fourth. Dave Gordon struck out to lead off the inning, but consecutive singles by Tim Lockard and Eric Miller and a ground rule double by Mark Maple gave the Rockets their first run.

Weber cruised through the fifth inning but ran into trouble in the sixth. The Rockets loaded the bases in that inning on a pair of singles and a walk. One out later, Brett Woodgeard, the Rockets' leftfielder, smashed a two-run single to right field to cut NC's lead to 10-3.

Berne Union scored its final run on a wild pitch by relief pitcher Joe Simi.

Chris Matheney, the Rockets' pitcher, allowed only seven hits but walked five. He had seven strikeouts.

The Rockets also had four errors in the game.
