Lancaster and Liberty Union softball headed to district final: H.S. Roundup

Lancaster 11, Chillicothe 1: The Gales cruised in their Division I district semifinal win over the Cavaliers.
Ashlin Mowery picked up the win in the circle and finished with eight strikeouts. Sophomore Kendall Brown hit two home runs and Skylar Smith had a home run. Lancaster will play in a district championship game on Friday or Saturday at Pickerington Central.
Liberty Union 6, Fredericktown 2: The Lions scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie in their Division III tournament win over the visiting Freddies.
Freshman Alexis McCoy had a huge night at the plate as she went 2-for-3, including a double, home run and three RBIs. Brooklyn Brockman was 3-for-3, including a double and an RBI. Suzie Shultz went the distance and picked up the win in the circle, giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out seven and not walking a batter.
No. 3-seeded Liberty Union will face top-seeded Fairbanks in a district championship game on Friday or Saturday at Pickerington Central High School.
Baseball
Fairfield Christian Academy 12, Northside Christian 0: Brayden Stem fired a one-hit shutout and had 12 strikeouts in five innings of work in the Knights’ Division IV tournament win. Caleb White went 3-for-3, and JP Vance was 2-for-3, hitting his eighth triple of the season.
The No. 2 seed Knights will host Shekinah Christian on Thursday.
Bloom-Carroll 10, Centennial 0: The Bulldogs opened Division II tournament play with a convincing win. They will travel to Buckeye Valley on Thursday.
Fisher Catholic 6, Granville Christian 0: Peyton Owens picked up a shutout win in the Irish’s Division IV tournament win.
Fisher Catholic advances to a second-round game and will travel to face No. 4 seed Mechanicsburg on Thursday.
Fairfield Union 3, Piketon 2: The Falcons hung on in their Division II Southeast sectional tournament win over the Redstreaks.
Fairfield Union (12-14) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Gage Hammond singled, followed by a Kyle Wolfe double. Ben Barringer hit an RBI single to score Hammond and Angelo Galella had a squeeze bunt to plate Wolfe.
The Falcons added an insurance run in the fourth inning. Wolfe walked and Jeremiah Johnson pinch-ran and scored on a double from Barringer.
Wolfe started and picked up the win, pitching four-plus innings, giving up four hits, one earned run and striking out five. Jacob Forson pitched two innings and didn’t allow a hit in earning the save.
The Falcons were scheduled to face top-seeded Unioto in a second-round game.
