    Millersport news: Cruisin' on the Commons this Friday at Lions Park

    The Millersport Sweet Corn Festival Committee will host Cruisin’ on the Commons at the Millersport Lions Park, Home of the Sweet Corn Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Registration is $15 for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Trophies will be awarded for Pre-1944, 1945 to 1964, 1965 to 1984, 1985 to 2004, and 2005 to present, Best of Show and Top Choice. There will be music, good food, door prizes and lots of fun. Proceeds will benefit Millersport Lions-supported charities. For more information call 614-562-1919 or 740-953-1521.

    Tour de Buckey Lake

    The 8th annual Tour-de-Buckeye Lake will be held from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, at the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival grounds, 2905 Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. The Tour features three biking trails of varying mileage – 11-mile route, 27-mile route and 63-mile route. Registration will be open the day of the event. There will be food trucks, local craft brews, a beer garden and live music. There will be related activities around the lake. The event is hosted by Bike Buckeye Lake, a 501c(3) organization with the profits going to improve biking and hiking safety.     Walnut Township Trustees

    The Walnut Township Trustees met in regular session Aug. 6 in the township office.

    Newly appointed Fiscal Officer Amy Amspaugh was given the Oath of Office. Amspaugh was appointed due to the resignation of outgoing Fiscal Officer Pam Underwood.

    During the time for comments from the floor, a local resident had questions concerning the Walnut Township Fire Department.

    Township Department reports were given. Walnut Township Fire Chief Price reported on the run totals for July, EMS billing, the upcoming Luke Bryan Concert and asked that two trustees be named to the Fire Department Contingency Fund. Zoning Inspector Mike Berry reported on the number of permits given, phone calls, variances, hearing set for Aug. 8, and work with the Fairfield County Prosecutor on issues. Parks and Roads Supervisor Nathan Wagner reported on the need for an increase in allocations for tree trimming, road repair work, mowing, and paving status. He also wishes to thank Chet Hauke for his work at Lieb’s Island. Regional Planning Commission Representative Robert Slater II reported on the meeting he attended and there was nothing involving Walnut Township. Township Administrator Tammy Oliver reported she will be helping Mrs. Amspaugh as she comes on board.

    Items of old business included discussion on Fairfield Beach joint identifications signs, Shephard Avenue property clean-up, Junk Motor Vehicle removal on Shepard Avenue, Lakeside Phases 1 to 4 Stormwater mitigation final engineering design agreement, Tornado Shelter update, and Salt Storage Facility update.

    Items of new business included Habitat for Humanity request for waive hearing fees, approve Residential Solar Zoning Resolution Amendment, Zoning Commission recommendation to approve PUD, approve EMS contract, accept donation of $750 for the Fire Department from the BLASST Board, Property Maintenance Violations Court filing approval, Silco Fire and Security quote for camera system, noise complaints, proposed Baltimore annexation, and clarification of accrual of vacation earned by full-time employees.

    Local residents made comments on short-term rentals, and solar information.

    The trustees voted to enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing Economic Development.
