    Baltimore artist awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant

    BALTIMORE — As an artist based in central Ohio, Michelle Stitzlein was awarded a 2023-2024 grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation recently.

    Of the 97 artists honored internationally, Stitzlein, of Baltimore. was the only Ohio artist awarded this calendar year. Past Ohio recipients include Christopher Burk (2018) and Aminah Robinson (1997). In support of Lee Krasner’s mission to advance the work of visual artists, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation is honored to provide support to the growing list of nearly 5,000 #PKFGrantees who have received $85 million across 79 countries to-date.

    Stitzlein’s works utilizing repurposed materials, collected primarily from central Ohio residents and likely diverted from county landfills, can be seen locally in the collections of the COSI (Center of Science and Industry); the Brukner Nature Center; as well as the Dayton Metro-Main and Dayton Metro-Huber Heights library locations. Recent exhibitions include shows at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden and the Mansfield Art Center.

    She has been awarded two Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council, an Individual Grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design. Residencies include the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco, as well as Shenandoah and Denali National Parks. Born and raised in Coshocton, OH, her home and studio are now located in a former grange hall in Baltimore, OH, and shared with her husband, Nathaniel, and their three cats.
