    Cross Country Roundup: Liberty Union wins own invitational and Lady Gales places first at Darby

    Here’s a look at local cross country results.

    Liberty Union: The Lions hosted the Lion Invitational on Saturday, and in the girls' race, the winner was Rachel Sponseller of Liberty Union with a time of 21:44. In the boys' race, the winner was Jordan McQueary of Fairfield Christian Academy with a time of 17:16.

    The Liberty Union girls placed first, with Bloom Carroll JV and Fairfield Christian Academy placing second and third, respectively. Other places for the Lions were: Taylor Jones (6th, 23:27), Caroline Endsley (7th, 23:31), Elizabeth Conn (10th, 24:17), Emma Huntwork (16th, 26:07), Hennali Hanes (20th, 27:49), and Kathleen Slaby (21st, 28:27).

    Bloom Carroll JV won the boys' meet, with Fairfield Christian Academy, Lakewood, Fisher Catholic, Liberty Union, and Berne Union placing second through sixth, respectively. Places for the Lions boys team: William McCreery (2nd, 17:37), Charlie Sponseller (13th, 18:55), Micah Fisher (19th, 19:21), William Gonzalez (34th, 20:59), Silas Kohler (47th, 23:23), and Levi Hendershot (55th, 26:18).

    Lancaster girls: The Lady Gales competed at the Darby Dash. In a quick weekday two miler the Gales brought home the victory. The Gales put five in the top 10. Leading the Gales with a first-place finish was Marisa Heil, who won the race in a time of 11:04. Harper Allen followed in 2nd (11:20), Ava Parrett in 6th (11:43), Brooke Derringer in 7th (11:44), Amelia Fries in 9th (12:04), Hadley Allen in 15th (12:33), Lily Carpico in 24th (12:57), Ava Zeiders in 30th (13:14), Katie Coy in 31st (13:30), and Alia Hopple in 48th (14:13).

    In the Open race the Gale took third led by Makenzie Rudduck in 4th place, Callie Kretzmann in 14th, Alayna Knoch in 19th, Evelyn Hill in 23rd, Brenna Jarrett in 25th, Chelsey Hunt in 35th, Annabelle Whitacre in 57th, Emma Loudon in 63rd, and Luna Safreed in 70th.

    Lancaster will compete in the Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division meet on Oct. 12.

    Fairfield Union: The Falcons delivered an outstanding performance at the Sheridan Backwoods Invitational, securing a dominant victory against 28 competing teams. The Falcons finished 56 points ahead of the second-place team, showcasing their depth and strength. Drew Walton had a standout race, finishing 1st overall out of 268 athletes.

    The Fairfield Union girls’ cross country team also had a strong showing, finishing seventh out of 20 teams. Leading the way for the team was Vera Henderly, who delivered an excellent performance, placing 10th overall out of 194 athletes.

    Fisher Catholic: The Irish competed in the Backwoods 2-mile Invitational at Sheridan. The boys placed 10 th out of 28 teams.

    The Irish runners were led by junior Roman Funk, who placed 8th at 9:56.1, and junior Landen Funk who placed 25th with a time of 10:18.01. Other Irish runners were Reece Hagy-10:57.8-73rd, Noah Krile- 11:30.34-118th and Nicholas Ristau- 11:38.42-129th. The Irish girls were Led by Eve Ohwoforwaraye, who placed 45th with a time of 13:06.4. Other Irish runners were Allison Krile 13:11.5-49th and Maggie Murphy 13:51.9-81st. The Irish Girls did not field a team.
