    H.S. Football Roundup: Lancaster’s comeback bid falls short against Canal Winchester

    Lancaster scored twice in the fourth quarter but came up short in its Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division matchup against Canal Winchester on Friday.

    The Golden Gales (3-6) couldn't quite put together a comeback bid and lost, 27-24, to the visiting Indians (7-2).

    Jahmeir Gordon gave the Gales an early lead when he scored on a 28-yard touchdown run, but the Indians responded with two scores to take a 14-6 first-quarter lead. They would add another to take a 20-6 halftime advantage.

    Lancaster cut the deficit to 20-13 in the third quarter when Brody Burke connected with junior tight end Kam Griffith on a 21-yard touchdown pass. Ethan Graham hit a 37-yard field goal to cut the margin to 20-16.

    Canal Winchester scored to push its lead to 27-16, but the Gales kept coming back. Devin Wilson scored on a 1-yard run and Gordon ran in the 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to 27-24. The Gales attempted a long field goal in the closing seconds but came up short.

    Gordon finished with 97 yards rushing on 17 carries. Burke completed 14 of 23 passes for 190 yards. Andrew Whitlach caught eight passes for 101 yards and Isaiah Sweatte had three receptions for 56 yards.

    Fisher Catholic 28, Berne Union 12: The visiting Irish (4-5) jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and expanded it 28-0 in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Rockets (2-7).

    Gage Armstrong scored two first-half touchdowns, and Grant Keefer connected with Hyde O’Reilley on a 12-yard scoring pass. The Irish scored a defensive touchdown when Caden Delabar recovered a fumble in the end zone.

    Jarett Thompson led the Rockets as he scored on a 55-yard touchdown run and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass. He finished with 90 yards rushing on nine carries and completed 7 of 12 passes for 72 yards. Dylan Finefrock added 59 yards rushing on 15 carries.

    Circleville 57, Liberty Union 35: The Lions (2-7) could not keep up with the high-scoring Tigers (4-5) in their MSL-Buckeye Division loss. No other information was available.

    Fairfield Christian Academy 28, Millersport 0: The Knights (3-6) got back on the winning side in the MSL-Cardinal Division win over the Lakers (2-7). No other information was available.
