This week's Glory Days is another reader suggestion and it comes from the 1989 game between Bloom-Carroll and Fisher Catholic.

And who was the hero of the game? Chad Duncan - the kicker.

The game took place on Oct. 20, 1989.

The score was 6-6 late in the game and Bloom-Carroll moved the ball to the Irish 32 but then ran the ball three straight times only to get to the 27. With six seconds left, Duncan was sent on the field to attempt a 45-yard field goal.

    It failed.

"We probably got a little too conservative too soon there," said head coach Rick Schaffner, about running it three straight times. "With the wind, we thought we were in range there at 47. He makes them from 47 in practice."

The game went into overtime and Fisher Catholic scored first. It was on second and 10 from the 20 and Jeff Carbol rolled right and passed to Dave Grein near the five and Grein ran it in.

Then came a fateful decision. Fisher Catholic decided to go for a 2-point conversion. Carbol's rushing attempt was stopped short.

It was now the Bulldogs' chance. They ran the ball twice with Brody Carpenter and got down to the 7-yard line. Then they got it down to the 4-yard line but at this point it was fourth and goal.

Quarterback Justun Lott faked a handoff, rolled left and passed to Bill Toole in the end zone.

Duncan came back in and hit the PAT in cold and windy weather conditions to seal the 13-12 win.

"He's (Chad Duncan) been our kicker for two years. Chad's our man. (The weather) didn't make a difference," Schaffner said.
