    Stanford man killed in US 27 motorcycle crash near Lancaster

    LANCASTER, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Stanford man was killed in a U.S. Highway 27 crash on Monday.

    The Garrard County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Rogers Road.

    According to authorities, the initial investigation revealed that a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado was turning onto U.S. 27 from Rogers Road when he turned into the path of 62-year-old Gregory Maggard’s 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

    Maggard was taken to the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, where he was later pronounced deceased, per the sheriff’s office.

    U.S. 27 was expected to be shut down in both directions for around six hours on Monday, the roadway has since reopened.

    The crash is still under investigation.

    Bluegrass 911 Communications shared the news on Facebook around 5:40 p.m. on Monday, asking the public to avoid the area if possible.

    According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, U.S. 27 is closed in both directions at Rogers Road in Lancaster.

    The road is expected to be closed for six hours, per officials.

    FOX 56 reached out to the Garrard County Sheriff’s Office for more information but denied comment at this time.
