LANCASTER − Crystal Walker left a long career at the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette seven years ago to work with the Fairfield County Auditor's office.

Walker is an appraisal assistant with the office.

"I collect zoning and building permits that are issued by the cities, villages and townships in Fairfield County," she said. "I then take the permit information and enter that into our system. This allows the appraisers to compile new construction reports and review those properties."

She also fields questions from the public on property issues, among other duties.

Walker worked for the Eagle-Gazette for 17 years before moving to the auditor's office. She had several duties at the Eagle-Gazette, including data input and talking to customers over the phone. Walker said leaving a job she'd had for 17 years for a new job was a big transition.

"It was, but it was something I was very excited about doing," she said.

Walker also helped monitor the police scanner at the Eagle-Gazette for fire and police emergencies. She said she still perks up some when she hears emergency vehicles going by with their sirens blaring.

"I still have that wanting to know and what's going," Walker said.

Away from work, Walker enjoys spending time with her husband, Brian.

"We like to watch movies or take a little road trip," she said. "And I enjoy spending time with my family and my nephews."
