What impact will Hurricane Beryl have on our area?

LANCASTER − Don't worry too much about Hurricane Beryl as it makes its way to the Fairfield County and central Ohio area.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall along the Texas coast as a Category 1 storm early Monday, unleashing a barrage of severe weather as it moved inland, prompting water rescues, disrupting hundreds of flights and leaving more than 1.5 million people without power, USA Today reported.

National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Hrebenach in Wilmington, said the area should just see some rain Tuesday night and into Wednesday. However, he did say isolated tornadoes could be possible.

"There's still a little bit of uncertainty in the exact track of where the remnants go," Hrebenach said Monday morning. "That could have an impact on how much rainfall. Right now the current forecast is generally around a half an inch."

He said the storm will weaken considerably going over land, so wind should not be much of an issue if the remnants reach here. Hrebenach said at 75 mph winds now in Texas it is barely even considered a hurricane.

"There could be some locally heavy rainfall depending on where the exact track goes," he said. "Obviously, the region's been quite dry. So right now it looks like it's just going to be some beneficial rainfall, if anything."
