LANCASTER − Vandals struck the St. Mary food pantry at 331 Gay St. over the weekend.

Police said someone apparently pushed in a first-floor air conditioner to gain entry into the church building. Once inside they broke some windows and pried open some locked doors. The thieves stole laptop computers, food, tools, and other items.

Police said they used grocery store shopping carts to haul items away, including cases of meat, chicken and pork. There was also opened food thrown on the floor. Police found cart tracks in the grass in the backyard and the tracks led to West Chestnut Street.

Police said someone also entered three other buildings on the grounds. They ate food in one of the buildings and threw items on the floor. A television, food and personal documents were also taken.

Also, police said someone flipped over several picnic tables over the weekend, causing one to break.

The police report lists no arrests for the crimes yet.
