15-Year-Old Asterisk Talley Currently 4 Shots Off the Lead at U.S. Women's Open

While the biggest shock of the weekend in Lancaster may have been Nelly Korda's +10 first round, another story quickly picked up steam on Friday morning in Pennsylvania. Asterisk Talley, the 15-year-old amateur out of California, fired a second-round score of 71 at the U.S. Women's Open.

Talley has now played consecutive rounds of 70 and 71. As of this writing, she sits at +1, four shots off the lead heading into the weekend of the second major of the season.

'I'm Having the Best Time of My Life'

While many amateurs have come through these tournaments in the past, Talley is the most notable contender in quite some time.

"I'm having the best time of my life," she said, adding that she still has some "homework" to do following her second round.

Talley is the youngest player in the field this week at Lancaster, and she currently sits several shots ahead of some of the top names in the women's circuit. Nelly Korda, Rose Zhang, Brooke Henderson, and Charley Hull are among those attempting to chase down Talley entering the weekend.

It doesn't matter how Asterisk Talley finishes this tournament, in my opinion. She's already shined and made a name for herself with an impressive performance. This course has humbled some of the biggest names on the women's circuit this week, yet Talley has played Lancaster gracefully and seemed to master its challenges and teeth.

This is a huge career boost for the amateur, and I see a bright future ahead for the rising star.
