Northland Pines Soccer Runs Down Mosinee
Last GNC conference game against always tough Mosinee would be a test of depth for our girls. Another game with 3 starters out. Two seniors our leading scorer, another leading forward in points and Junior speedy forward out. I have preached all year that when opportunities arise you have to seize the moment. Five minutes into the game Ryyn Darr slotted back a ball to an overlapping Grace Planks who ripped the ball from 30 yards, out of reach of the Mosinee keeper into the top left corner. We possessed most of the half and only two successful attacks when we left their tough midfielder loose, but no real scoring opportunities transpired. At half we told the girls to stay compose keep passing and moving and you will start scoring goals. In the 54 minute Emma Weber took a goal kick out of the air and on touch sailed a ball over the head of the keeper into the top right corner. That seemed to take the wind out Mosinee sails and 7 minutes later Rynn Darr juked the Mosinee player into the left box attacking the keeper and at the very last second made a left foot pass to her sister Ryley Darr for her first Varsity goal. Darr to Darr per say and it beautiful to watch. Those two have been working hard in practice pushing one another so it was awesome to see them hook up for the score! At the 70 th minute freshman Addison Paez tapped the ball behind the defender raced towards the keeper beating her short side. We were able to empty the bench and give most of the starters rest and give the younger generation rod needed varsity minutes. It was a great win and a number of girls stepped up. I told the coaches in our seeding meeting we are just starting to click and we have not seen our best soccer yet.
