Katherine A. Sporer -- August 26, 1932 - June 10, 2024
Katherine “Cottie” A. Sporer, age 91, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born on August 26, 1932, in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late John and Celia (Bonavich) Povich. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the class of 1950. Katherine married John Sporer on May 9, 1953, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, MI. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2022. John preceded her in death on May 2, 2023. (WLUC)
Fred Hafer
Fred Hafer, age 84, passed away at his home on June 2, 2024, with his wife and family at his side. Fred was born January 31, 1940, in Milwaukee to parents Fred and Johanna (Heun) Hafer. He was 16 when his dad retired and moved the family to Eagle River, where Fred attended Eagle River Union Free High School, graduating in 1959. At that time, he also began working for Satran & Sons Printing, sweeping floors after school. This led to an apprenticeship as a Printer-Compositor which he completed in 1966. He was employed by Satran & Sons, later Satran Lithographers and the Vilas County News Review.
