Landis man arrested after 911 caller reports suspicious person looking into vehicles

LANDIS — A man was arrested in Landis after police said a person called 911 and reported that he was looking into vehicles parked near the street.

Officers with the Landis Police Department responded to a 911 call on South Zion Street at approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday, where the caller said that they had observed an unknown person looking into vehicles, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Officers found the man in front of a residence in the 800 block of South Highland Avenue and noticed that he was wearing a headlamp and carrying a “large wooden stick with a knife tied on the end of it,” according to the post. The man allegedly told the officers that he had entered a truck on the property to escape a dog that had been chasing him.

Officers reportedly reviewed surveillance footage of the area that showed the man entering the truck but no dog chasing him.

The man, identified as 35-year-old Eric Utah Lisk by online jail records, was arrested by the officers and charged with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond.

“The Landis Police Department would like to thank the China Grove Police Department and local community members for their assistance in this investigation,” said the department in the post.
