    Chairs stolen from Women’s Center

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — An unknown person or persons made off with chairs from the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing , and center officials are asking for the chairs to be returned.

Angie Wooster says the chair were ordered as part of a $5,000 grant project to help clients learn to grow their own food. The grant was through the City of Lansing and part of an initiative of funding from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

“We calculated our expenses to the penny,” Wooster says of the grant.

Because the program is designed to be an active engagement and teaching opportunity, the chairs are important she says so participant can sit down during learning.

While the agency doesn’t plan to file a police report — “Lansing Police Department has more important things to worry about than some missing lawn chairs,” Wooster says — they would like the person or persons who took the chairs to return them.

The chairs were on a pallet of other items for the garden project and strapped securely to it. Wooster says those involved cut the straps to remove the chairs. Nothing else from the project was missing, she says. While the area is covered by surveillance cameras the chair nabbers were not caught on video. The chairs were taken sometime between 5:15 p.m. Tuesday evening and 8:40 Wednesday morning.

“It put a damper on our spirits,” she says.

But, she says, an outpouring of support from the community after the incident was reported on Facebook has buoyed staff spirits.
