LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Steve Doerr, Superintendent of East Jackson Community Schools, will be stepping down at the end of the month, says the district’s Board of Education. Doerr was superintendent of the district for eight years.

“We are deeply grateful for the contributions and unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and community,” says Board President Ken Straub. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

The Board of Education will honor Mr. Doerr following the Board meeting on July 15.

Jeff Punches, the current principal of East Jackson Middle School, will replace Doerr.

The Board says that Punches’ was selected for the position due to supporting district staff and improving educational and athletic opportunities for students. Punches established an alternative education program centered around virtual learning and credit recovery and assisted with renovating the schools and athletic facilities.

“We are excited to welcome Jeff Punches into this new role,” says Straub. “His deep understanding of our district and his proven leadership abilities makes him the ideal candidate to continue our mission of providing an excellent education to all students.

Punches will officially begin his new role as superintendent on Aug 1.
